Home Remedies for Nail fungus, Natural Treatment



Toenail fungus, caused by fungal infection, can be treated and prevented from spreading effectively by the home remedies for nail fungus. This infection is contagious and precaution should be taken while going at public places and using clothes.

Tea tree oil is a trusted home remedy for nail fungus. Dabbing a cotton ball in tea tree oil and rubbing the affected area will surely improve the condition within few days. Tea tree oil can be used with lavender oil for effective treatment, rubbing the toe nail with the mixture of these two in equal quantities, 2-3 times in a day, alleviates the problem.

Vinegar is another useful home remedy for toenail fungus. Though any vinegar is useful but apple cider vinegar is most effective, soaking feet in a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar, mixed in equal quantities, for 15-20 minutes and then wiping them dry. This should be repeated for at least 2-3 times in a day for quick relief.

Oregano oil has very rich anti-septic, anti-parasitical, anti-fungal and anti-virus properties. Two drops of oregano oil mixed with a teaspoon of olive oil and applied at the affected area provides relief and cures the infection in few days. This treatment shall not be taken for more than three weeks.

Rubbing alcohol is another effective home remedy for toenail fungus. Rubbing alcohol shall be applied at the affected area in the morning and before going to bed for maximum benefit. Hydrogen peroxide 3% also treats the infection very well. Soaking affected foot with hydrogen peroxide 3% for 20 minutes in the morning and before retiring to bed is very helpful. If undiluted hydrogen peroxide is harsh for the skin then it can be diluted with equal amount of water.



Applying the paste of turmeric and water on the affected part also alleviates the infection. Applying lemon juice on the infected area or rubbing the affected area with a slice of onion is also a helpful home remedy for toenail fungus.

Herbal teas are also effective home remedies for nail fungus. Chamomile tea has good anti-fungal properties and drinking a cup of chamomile tea three times a day or even applying the tea directly to the affected area helps in curing the infection. Ginger root are also effective in treating the infection. Two ounces of ginger root stirred in 8 ounces of water for 20 minutes and drinking a cup of this decoction three times a day and applying directly to the affected area alleviates the infection in few days.

Golden seal is also useful home remedies for treating fungal infection causing toenail fungus. It has anti-fungal properties and its tincture can be consumed by mixing 5 drops of it with any juice for three times in a day. Mixing 6 teaspoons of powdered herb in water and boiling it for 20 minutes, applying this mixture on the affected part helps in curing the infection.

Garlic is the most easy to use home remedy for toenail fungus. Consuming at least 6 garlic cloves in the diet everyday improves the immunity system to flush out the fungal infection. Garlic juice can be applied directly on the affected part and its powder can be used to dust feet and footwear to cure the infection.
