Home Remedies for Oral Thrush, Natural Treatments

Oral thrush is a discomfort and painful state in the mouth caused due to overgrowth of Candida because of higher intake of sugar in the diet, chemotherapy, compromised immune system or radiation therapy. This is a yeast infection that may also affect infants if the mother is suffering from this infection during pregnancy. In some cases, it can be contagious too and at the same time very painful and uncomfortable. It can also affect adults and can be spotted as a white coating on the tongue.

Due to the unpleasant condition caused by oral thrush, it needs to be cured, well in time. There are some of the home remedies that can be followed in order to treat oral thrush. Being a fungal infection, the remedies have to be antifungal in their outcome. The top of the throat has to be wiped of gently by using cotton balls or special brushes that can clean the throat region alongside the tongue to provide relief from oral thrush.

A mouthwash with a combination of warm water, a pinch of salt and cider vinegar can be used and gargle the throat region with it. This mouthwash has an antifungal effect and thus provides satisfactory outcomes. Also, a tincture consisting of licorice, echinacea and myrrh can be used as a mouthwash. Onion and garlic can also be used as a home remedy for oral thrush. Garlic is a good antifungal source while onion helps in restoring the white coating in the mouth. So, it is advisable to indulge the daily diet, with both of them.

Yogurt consumption can be an effective home remedy against oral thrush. Swish the yoghurt around the mouth and afterwards, avoid the intake of anything for a short duration of time. This would help in the growth of healthy bacteria acidophilus in the mouth region. Acidophilus helps in fighting against the yeast infection. Also, try to maintain a good oral habit by brushing, at least twice a day. This would disallow the congestion of Candida in the mouth. In order to speed up the oral thrush curing it is recommended to reduce the level of sugar in the body.

One should go for a high fiber diet with rich protein content. Newborns can be affected with oral thrush through breastfeeding process. Thus, the mother needs to take an extra care and if she finds her nipple to be red and insensitive, then she must avoid breastfeeding. Also, try to wash the accessories of the infant with warm water, on regular basis. If an individual suffering from oral thrush, wear dentures, but remember that these dentures needs to be cleaned every night. Dentures should be soaked in a clean solution overnight and should be rinsed properly before placing it in the mouth.

This oral infection needs to be cured well in time. So, one should try to take the corrective measures as soon as possible. If an individual is unable to get the proper outcome against oral thrush, he or she should consult a specialist.
